Mr. Doster will deliver a comprehensive presentation regarding the operations at Atlanta airport, providing valuable insights into the complexities involved in managing the world's busiest airport. He will share his experiences as a Flight Superintendent within Delta Air Lines Flight Control—including his involvement in dispatching flights during September 11, 2001—and will detail the processes required to uphold flight safety and reliability. Mr. Doster observes that while most passengers are acquainted with the role of the Captain, there is limited awareness of the Dispatcher’s joint responsibility for operational control and flight safety.
In conjunction with Atlanta's 100 Year Celebration, we honor the visionary leadership that transformed an abandoned racetrack into a global hub, now serving over 100 million passengers annually. This transformation has established the airport as both the world’s busiest and one of its most efficient, connecting individuals to diverse opportunities, markets, and cultures across the globe.

Community Opioid Abatement Forum
The Rotary Club of Big Canoe, together with the Big Canoe POA, is organizing a forum focused on opioid prevention, education, and harm reduction in the local community. Captain Chris Leake, Pickens County Sheriff’s Department, will be the featured speaker.
The Big Canoe community has historically had a larger-than-average older population, with many residents managing medical conditions that require medication. Often, when these medications are changed or discontinued, they end up being stored or thrown away instead of being disposed of properly. Some of these drugs, including narcotic opioids, can pose serious risks to children or individuals struggling with addiction. Having an appropriate disposal option within the community would give residents a safe and accessible way to eliminate these potentially dangerous substances.
The program will conclude with a panel discussion.
The event will be held at the Clubhouse Overlook on February 19. Social time starts at 5:00 pm, and the main meeting begins at 5:30 pm.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend.
The Rotary 4-Way Test is a simple yet profound ethical guide for decision-making and personal conduct. It consists of four questions: "Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?" These questions encourage honesty, fairness, and consideration for others in every action or decision. Created in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor, the test was adopted by Rotary International in 1943 as a cornerstone of its values
The test helps individuals and organizations evaluate the ethical implications of their choices. It fosters trust, understanding, and collaboration, strengthening relationships and communities. Its universal principles make it applicable across cultures, professions, and personal situations. The 4-Way Test is a timeless tool for promoting integrity and positive change in the world by focusing on truth, fairness, goodwill, and mutual benefit.

The Rotary Club of Big Canoe is dedicated to serving our community through impactful projects, leadership, and volunteerism. Guided by the principles of integrity, fellowship, and service above self, we strive to create meaningful change both locally and globally. The Rotary Club of Big Canoe is a community that represents different professions, experiences, and perspectives but also shares a desire to connect with others to address the challenges affecting our community and communities worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Big Canoe demonstrated its commitment to community support by presenting an $8,000 check to the Pickens County Weekend Snack Program. This donation will help provide essential food supplies to children in need, ensuring they have access to nutritious snacks over the weekends. The program plays a crucial role in combating hunger and supporting the well-being of local families. The Rotary Club’s contribution reflects its dedication to making a positive and lasting impact on the community.

Our Club offers opportunities for our members – and those interested in making a difference – to get involved. Through our club meetings, social events, and volunteer projects, our members learn about the issues facing our community and communities worldwide, partnering with local, national, and global experts to exchange ideas about potential solutions and draw up action plans to respond. Along with these opportunities to serve, members can regularly network, resulting in lifelong friendships and business connections.

The Rotary Club of Big Canoe dedicates its efforts to impactful community projects, focusing on education, health, and community engagement and relief efforts. We provide scholarships to deserving students, host food drives to support families in need, and collect home medical equipment. Through these programs, our club enhances the quality of life and fosters a spirit of service in the community.
